What To Do in America: 10x Our Tips!
We visited America two times already and made some great roadtrips. We went to Hawaii and the western and eastern part of the country. During our roadtrips we collected the best tips for travel routes, where to stay and so on. In this article you’ll find our 10 top tips for what to do in America, based on our own experiences!
1) New York
‘The city that never sleeps’ is our first tip for what to do in America. We think you can stay at least up to a week in New York. Our recommendation for a stay would be in Hoboken. This is a town close to New York City from where you can take the bus/ferry to the city centre. In the evening it is very nice to walk around at watch the skyline of the city. The costs of the ferry are about 7-8 dollar per person.
Accommodationtip: Club Quarters Hotel or Hoboken

2) Washington
Take the train from New York to Washington, it will only take a few hours. In Washington you’ll find the iconic buildings like the White House. We think Washington is more spacious then New York because of the less higher buildings. The visit to the Washington Monument was one of the highlights of our stay. Did you know you can visit this monument for free?

3) National Parks (in Winter)
The western part of America is for the adventure seekers and nature lovers. You can visit National Parks as Zion and Grand Canyon. We made a complete road trip during the winter periode to a lot of these National Parks. Check out our travel route!

4) Cedar Point
Very different than city’s or nature: Cedar Point is a well-known amusement park in Ohio. There are a lot of challenging rides for the real thrill seekers. Top Thrill 2 is until now the highest ride of the world, with a high of 128 meters! For also for the less adventurous there is a lot to do!

5) Shooting Range
As a foreigner we wanted to experience a moment on the shooting range. We booked a full-day shooting lesson to learn more about guns and shooting itself. We highly recommend Nifta in Indiana. You can find the exact location on our Google Maps map of America (East).

6) Las Vegas
This quintessential city in the west of the country is a fantastic place to spend an evening or a day. The casinos are free, and you’ll be amazed! There are other things to experience, too, such as a fountain show or a roller coaster ride through the city center.

7) San Fransisco
Our road trip through the western part of America in San Francisco, where we visited the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. This city is also characterized by its steep roads. We found San Francisco to be a very friendly and pleasant city.
Accommodationtip: Samesun San Francisco

8) O’ahu (Hawaii)
O’ahu is one of the islands of Hawaii. With its diverse beaches, such as Waikiki Beach, it offers a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. We stayed in a hostel with a private room and took two interesting day tours through it. However, we would also recommend renting a car so you can explore the island independently.

9) Rent a Truck
If you’re visiting America for the first time, you’ll probably be amazed by the sheer number of large cars driving around here. During our recent road trip across the country, we also rented a larger vehicle. This made the experience truly unique! And with a truck, a night at the drive-in movie theater is a must. Simply type “drive-in” into Google Maps and you’ll find one near you!
Tip: rent your car at Sunnycars.
10) Big Island Vulcano
On Big Island (Hawaii), there’s a volcano you can climb. It’s more of a hike than a real climb, but you’ll need to set aside a whole day for it. You can leave your car at the trailhead, after which you’ll receive some information about the hike. The rangers will also write down your information, as they want to monitor who hikes and whether they return on time. If you’d rather skip the hike and drive up, a 4×4 is essential!
