Tips Citytrip Berlin

Before the trip to Berlin, I had read up well. Certain things are of course very nice to discover yourself. However, there are a number of things that you should know in advance so that you can start your city trip carefree. This article is about all the tips for a citytrip to Berlin!

Buy a Subway Ticket

You can buy a metro ticket at any metro station. I immediately bought one at Berlin Hauptbahnhof and I thought I could quickly click on an AB ticket. After all, I had read this, but it was not that easy with this machine. After help from a local, I took a few steps to be able to buy an AB ticket: at the start station it is already stated ‘Berlin’, at the end station you type ‘Berlin’ again. You then come to a selection menu where you can buy a few rides and yes, the AB / ABC ticket now suddenly appears! At another metro station it was immediately clear how you could buy an AB/ABC ticket. This option was mentioned on the home screen.

Stamp your Subway Ticket

It is clearly displayed when you get your ticket printed, but I was asked by several people if I had my ticket stamped. It is therefore often enough that this does not happen and then your ticket is not valid. You will find the stamp machines next to each ticket machine in the colors red or yellow. Push your ticket far enough into the machine, otherwise it will not be stamped yet.

Blue Signs of Places of Interest

You can choose to follow my walking route on your journey past all the sights, but there are plenty of signs throughout the city with good signage. These signs indicate where to go, how many meters to walk and which way to go.

Streetfoot Thursday

Every Thursday evening it is street food night in the Markthalle Neun (5 pm – 10 pm). You have a wide choice of different cuisines (Asian, Nepalese, European, etc) and drinks. It is very nice to have a bite. You will probably have to share your table (standing/sitting) with one or more people, which also gives you the chance to meet new people.

Visit Sachsenhausen

Sachsenhausen is a concentration camp located just above Berlin (Oranienburg). This can be an interesting trip during a city trip to Berlin, especially if you are a history buff. Also read the full article about Sachsenhausen.

Bring Hiking Boots

Berlin is big, very big. You can of course use the subway, but then you see more of Berlin’s underground than what you came for: the beautiful, authentic buildings. It is therefore advisable to walk some parts, but then you have to take large distances into account. So put on comfortable shoes that you can walk in at least ten kilometers a day.
