Nizwa Goat Market: All You Need to Know!
For the locals, it’s a Friday morning ritual: the lively goat market in Nizwa. Goats are thoroughly inspected before the bidding begins. It’s a nerve-racking morning for the animals, but an important tradition for the Omani people. As a tourist, you’re welcome to witness this entire spectacle up close. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting the Nizwa goat market.

What Time Does the Goat Market Start?
The market kicks off at 7:00 AM sharp. If you want to experience the action in full, it’s best to be there right on time. We arrived at 7:15 AM and were immediately surrounded by shouting men and bleating goats. It was a complete chaos, in the best way. By around 8:00 AM, most of the buying and selling is over. Purchased goats are loaded into truck beds or taken home, ready for the next round.

How to Get to the Goat Market
From Muscat, it’s about a 2-hour drive to Nizwa. This is not ideal if you want to arrive early. That’s why we recommend booking a stay in Nizwa the night before. We stayed at IHYAA Inn, a cozy spot right in the center. From there, it’s just a short walk to the souqs and the goat market.
Where to Park for the Nizwa Goat Market?
If you’re staying at IHYAA Inn, you can simply use their parking lot. Coming in from Al Hamra like we did, and need public parking? Check out our Oman Google Maps guide for a free spot. From there, it’s a 10-minute walk to the market.
