Oman Travel Expenses: Budget for a Road Trip in Oman
The lesser-explored Oman, perfect for a shorter road trip. But what does it actually cost? We tracked our expenses for you! In this article, we provide an overview of the travel expenses for a 12-day road trip through Oman.

General Travel Expenses for a Road Trip in Oman
It’s important to know what kind of trip we took when looking at the costs below. We traveled as two people, for 12 days during late April/early May. For this trip we rented a car and stayed in hostels with our own bathroom.
Overview Travel Expenses for a Road Trip in Oman
What are the costs of a trip to Oman? We paid approximately €1350 in total for two people for 12 days, excluding a direct flight from Frankfurt. That comes down to a daily budget of €112.50 for two people. Below is a rough breakdown of how we spent this, based on 2025 prices. We received no discounts or special offers.

- Accommodation (26%)
- Food and drinks (22%)
- Transportation (30%)
- Activities (19%)
- Other (3%)
Flight to Oman
There are no direct flights from the Netherlands to Oman. You have various options for a transfer in places like Dubai or Abu Dhabi. We chose a direct flight with Oman Air from Frankfurt to Muscat. Check the best prices on Skyscanner.
Accommodations in Oman
For an average of €30 per night, we stayed in really decent accommodations. We mostly chose hotels and occasionally a type of homestay. We always had a spacious room with a private bathroom. In our article about accommodations in Oman, you can see exactly what you get for €30 per night.

Food and Drinks in Oman
In total, we spent €300 on food and drinks in Oman. This includes everything from coffee to dining out and groceries. This amount could definitely be lower since we bought extra coffee every day and sat down somewhere. Lunch tends to be relatively expensive. For example, you can get a decent dinner for €10-15, but pay the same amount for a coffee and muffin.

Transportation in Oman
We rented a car for the entire trip via Sunnycars. Since a 4×4 was significantly more expensive, we didn’t choose one. We were able to do everything with a 2×2 during our 12-day road trip. The €400 for transportation includes fuel, which is much cheaper in Oman than in the Netherlands. Read all about driving in Oman!
Activities in Oman
Many things in Oman are free to do. Some forts require an entrance fee, such as Nizwa Fort and castles. The most expensive activity on our trip was the snorkeling tour to the Daymaniyat Islands, which was definitely worth it! We paid €250,- total for activities for two people.
We booked our snorkeling tour with Cruise Boat Oman!

Other Travel Expenses in Oman
Other expenses depend on the person. Keep in mind you’ll spend some money on a SIM card. We bought ours in advance via Airalo. Using the code MEIKE4854 gets you €3 off your first purchase.
Conclusion on Travel Expenses Oman
Is Oman an expensive destination? No, it’s quite reasonable. During our travel period (late April/early May), accommodations could be booked for just a few tens of euros. A cup of coffee costs about the same as in the Netherlands, and a normal car rental is also a few tens of euros per day. So, you can explore Oman on a fairly reasonable budget.
