Argentina

With the tango capital in the north and Patagonia in the south, Argentina has plenty to offer for outdoor travelers. During our Patagonia road trip, we spent several days exploring the southern part of Argentina in search of wildlife and glaciers. On this page, you’ll find concise travel information about Argentina to help you plan your own trip with confidence.

Travel Information Argentina

Our Route Through Argentina

Your itinerary in Argentina largely depends on your starting point. We entered the country via Chile and then took a domestic flight to Buenos Aires. If you’re traveling from Europe, you could easily do this the other way around.

Visa and Entry Requirements

Dutch citizens do not need a visa to enter Argentina. We crossed the border by bus, and the process went smoothly. They do briefly inspect your bag, so make sure you’re not carrying any fresh fruit or vegetables. Check the latest official travel advice from your government before departure or check the local website of Argentina.

Travel Budget and Currency

Argentina isn’t an expensive country in general, but due to the highly fluctuating exchange rate and the rapid decline in cash value, you do need to stay alert. We mainly used our Revolut card and never experienced any issues withdrawing money or paying by credit card. It’s best to check the current exchange rate before and during your trip, as it can change significantly over time.

Climate in Argentina

Argentina is a vast country with a wide range of climates. Much of the country is dry (desert and steppe climate), while the southern region has a high-mountain climate. Did you know that Argentina even has areas where snow remains year-round?

When Is High Season in Argentina?

High season coincides with the Argentine summer. Accommodation prices tend to rise during this period, and you may need to book certain activities in advance. That said, we suspect Argentina never feels overwhelmingly crowded.

Popular Highlights in Argentina

Our personal highlights were Patagonia and the capital, Buenos Aires. If you enjoy wildlife spotting, a visit to El Palmar National Park is also highly recommended.

Safety and Health

We never felt unsafe at any point in Argentina. Especially in the southern regions, you can comfortably walk around with your belongings. We regularly carried our camera and drone without any issues. Naturally, you should be more cautious in the capital, but that applies to any major city. Always consult a medical professional regarding recommended vaccinations before traveling.

Internet and Connectivity

This time, we used an eSIM from Airalo. With the discount code MEIKE4854, you’ll receive €3 off your first purchase with Airalo.
