World Trip
We took a sabattical and went for a world trip in 2023! In seven months time, we visited 11 countries in four different continents. At the moment we are on our next big trip! Below you’ll find our travel itinerary for every country we visited during this trip around all timezones in the world.
Our World Travel Experiences
A world trip is very different from a long vacation of a few weeks or a month. Traveling literally becomes your life. We experienced it as an amazing time, and we would definitely recommend everyone to go on such a long trip! But what makes a long trip so different, and what should you keep in mind? Soon, we’ll share more about it from our own experience. For now, here are some things that stood out to us the most.
Minimalist Living
Carrying big suitcases or bags is a big no-no. You’ll have to learn to live with just the essential items you really need! Planning a longer trip? You’ll soon notice that you need fewer and fewer things. Your backpack becomes your best friend!
Staying in Touch with Friends and Family
We thought we would have little contact with friends and family, but it turned out to be the opposite. Almost everywhere in the world, there’s internet, so video calls are easy to set up. And you’ll definitely have enough time for those calls! Meanwhile, you’re living with your travel partner 24/7. It’s actually a great relationship test!
Forgetting Everyday Life during World Trip
At first, it still feels like just a regular trip. That changed for us when we boarded the plane to our next destination. Besides the constantly changing time zones and climates, you lose all sense of routine. We had no idea what day of the week it was.
Accepting the Circumstances
A world trip isn’t just about the beautiful moments! You’ll probably sleep in a new place every night or every few nights. That means a new environment and a new bed each time. Sleepless nights are part of the deal. Sometimes, things go wrong, and you’ll need to come up with a creative solution on the spot.
Freedom
But the most important thing is freedom. We’ve never experienced so much freedom as we did on this long world trip! There were simply no obligations for over six months!
World Travel Blog
During our journey, we kept a live blog! While there aren’t specific travel tips, you might find some inspiration for your own world trip plan! This blog is only available in Dutch, unfortunately.
