Winter Activities in Lake Louise: 6 Things to Do!
In February 2024, we spent a few days in the beautiful area around Lake Louise. It was peak winter, and we chose several activities in the area. Ready to discover the best winter activities in Lake Louise? Here are 6 things you don’t want to miss!

Lake Louise Ski Resort
Just look at that view! Need to say more? Skiing at the Lake Louise Ski Resort is an unforgettable experience. If you’re staying at the HI Lake Louise Alpine Centre, buses run directly from the hostel to the resort. Super convenient, so no need to move your car from the parking lot!

Tramline Winter Hike
Starting from the village, the Tramline Hike leads you straight to Lake Louise. This trail is beautifully quiet; you’ll occasionally pass another hiker or cross-country skier. While regular shoes work fine, snowshoes can make things a bit easier depending on conditions!
Bow River loop Hike
The Bow River is known for its stunning blue color. Take a short and peaceful walk on the Bow River Loop Hike, which is clearly marked with signposts along the way. It’s a perfect trail to enjoy the serenity of winter.

Lake Agnes Trail Viewpoint
From the Lake Louise parking lot, you can hike to the Lake Agnes Viewpoint. There are signs warning you for bears everywhere, however, we did not see any during our hike. The small frozen lake at the end is tranquil and absolutely worth the effort.
Ice Skating Activity on Lake Louise
In winter, Lake Louise freezes over, creating a magical icy playground. Rent skates in the village or simply walk across the frozen lake to the other side. Near the parking area, they clear a section of ice for skating. It’s an unforgettable Canadian winter experience!

Fairview Lookout Winter Trail
A short hike takes you to the Fairview Lookout Trail, where the views are nothing short of spectacular. Bring your camera—you’ll want to capture this!
