Vilnius, the vibrant capital, is a must-see when exploring Lithuania. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is full of narrow streets, baroque architecture, and cultural landmarks. We loved climbing the way to the three crosses for a stunning panoramic views of the city. Don’t miss the chance to try traditional Lithuanian dishes like cepelinai and šaltibarščiai, which are perfect after a day in the city.
2. Trakai en Trakai Island castle
If you’re looking for something truly unique, head to Trakai Island Castle, located on Lake Galvė. This striking red-brick castle, built in the 14th century, sits on an island and is one of the most picturesque unique places to visit in Lithuania. We enjoyed a peaceful walk around the lake, taking in views of the castle, and tried local kibinai pastries in the small town of Trakai.
3. Kaunas
Just an hour from Vilnius, Kaunas offers a fascinating mix of history and modern culture. The Kaunas Castle, with its medieval charm, and Laisvės Alėja (Freedom Avenue), a lively pedestrian street, are both must-sees.
