Unique experiences in Estonia
As a lesser-known destination, we visited Estonia in the fall of 2024. This country is, along with Latvia and Lithuania, part of the Baltic States. Below, you’ll find 4 unique experiences to do in Estonia, including a free Google Maps travel guide Baltic States!
Tallinn
The capital of Estonia is Tallinn. This city has a beautiful old town with a rich history. Here, you’ll find old churches, a city wall, and various squares with little restaurants. Tallinn also has a more modern area, which we found less worth exploring.
Tip: Be sure to visit the viewpoint from which you can see part of the old town: Patkuli Viewing Platform.

Ring Sport Hostel
During a vacation, it’s also important to relax. As a guest of the Ring Sport Hostel, you get a nice discount on the sauna. You can definitely spend an evening here! By the way, the Ring Sport Hostel isn’t a typical hostel, as you have a private room with a bathroom.
Saaremaa
The largest island in Estonia is Saaremaa. From Virtsu, it’s a 20-minute boat ride. We don’t think it’s necessary to book a ticket in advance, but it can be done through the official website. Saaremaa is mostly very flat and is known for its wooden houses and windmills. It doesn’t differ much from the mainland of Estonia.
Tip: Kuressaare is a charming spot with a beautiful castle. Try dining at Söstar Köök & baar. They also offer vegetarian dishes.

Tartu
Named the European Capital of Culture 2024, Tartu should definitely be included in your road trip through Estonia. This university city is smaller than Tallinn, for example, but it’s no less charming. There’s plenty to discover here as well!
