Cameron Highlands Malaysia: the Best Travel Tips!
The Cameron Highlands are a popular stopover during a tour of Malaysia. We understand why! The tea plantations are impressive to see and there is plenty to do in the area. Here you can read all our travel tips for your visit to the Cameron Highlands.

How to Get to the Cameron Highlands?
We traveled by public transport during our tour of Malaysia. That’s quite doable, if you brace yourself in the bus. The drivers really drive like maniacs sometimes! Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem to bother the locals, as we were the only ones in the bus not relaxing. From Kuala Lumpur we booked a one-way ticket to Tanah Rata through 12goaisa. Everything was well organized and this was even the most luxurious bus ride we had in Malaysia.
Where to Stay in Tanah Rata?
We stayed with Norman in The Rustique Cameron Highlands. This accommodation can certainly not be called luxurious and is located somewhat secluded in a side street near a nightclub. Still, we had a great time at Norman. He is super friendly, cleans the rooms well and helped us when we had questions about the area. He also recommended a fantastic restaurant to us: Singh Chapati, close to the accommodation! You can find the exact location of this restaurant on our Google Maps travel guide Malaysia.
Travel Tips for Activities Cameron Highlands Malaysia
We stayed for two days (3 nights) in Tanah Rata and did the following activities.
Tour Cameron Highlands
Of course you come to this region to visit the tea plantations. We booked an organized tour in the village (with CS Travel and Tours) to various tea plantations and the Mossy Forest. Definitely recommended! We were given plenty of time to taste tea and look around the plantation. The only downside to this tour was that we went to some sort of zoo on the way back. Definitely not our thing to see animals like that!

Hiking Trail 10
The walk called Trail 10 leads to a viewpoint over the village of Tanah Rata. The 11 kilometer loop is doable in good condition, but can be muddy in places if it has just rained.
After Cameron Highlands?
After our visit to the Cameron Highlands, we traveled to Taman Negara National Park. Also view our complete Malaysia itinerary along various National Parks, the capital Kuala Lumpur and the most amazing beaches!
