Malaysia Itinerary 3 Weeks
Tea plantations, jungle trekking and paradise beaches: Malaysia is a great country for a complete itinerary. We traveled through the country by public transport and in this article you will find our diverse itinerary for 3 weeks in Malaysia with a complete Google Maps travelguide.

Tip: download our Google Maps travel guide Malaysia. This way you have all the stops on your phone!
Travel Day to Kuala Lumpur (1 Day)
The first day of your trip you will probably be spending on air travel. Book a nice overnight stay in Kuala Lumpur in advance so that you can recover from this long journey. We chose Scarletz Suites, perfect with a rooftop bar and infinity pool for a very affordable price and within walking distance of the best sights of Kuala Lumpur in the city center.

Kuala Lumpur (3 Days)
In 3 days you will certainly have enough time to explore Kuala Lumpur. Curious about what to do? We collected 5 things you should definitely not miss in our blog what to do in Kuala Lumpur.

Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands (3 Days)
From Kuala Lumpur it is a one day journey to the next destination in Malaysia: Tanah Rata. Nearby you will find the Cameron Highlands where tea is grown. We booked a tour here (can be booked anywhere in the village itself) and learned a lot about the tea plantations and the surrounding area. The area around Tanah Rata is also suitable for hiking. From the village we took a walk of about 11 kilometers (Trail 10), which is definitely worth it. Ask your host in advance whether the route is doable. When we walked, it was quite muddy and often not very easy to walk the path properly.

Taman Negara National Park (3 Days)
From Tanah Rata it is a full day of travel by bus to Taman Negara National Park. The first day is completely spent on the intense bus journey (something that doesn’t seem to bother the locals). On the remaining two days we did a jungle trek and a hike. There are tours available everywhere that do exactly the same thing. When it comes to prices, you don’t have to search long, because you can find tours for about the same price everywhere. We booked a day tour with a walk and river rafting and that was really great!
Tip: book this tour on the first day, because your entire outfit including shoes will be soaking wet. This way everything can dry for another day before you have to pack everything again. You can also take a short walk through the jungle independently, but there are some things that are useful to know before your visit to the Taman Negara.

Perhentian Islands (3 – 6 Days)
For us the absolute highlight of the tour through Malaysia! The Perhentian islands are truly amazing with their crystal waters and extraordinary paradise-like beaches. There are no cars and you have to do everything by boat or on foot. We only stayed there for 3 days and this was far to short!

Travelling to Georgetown (2 Days)
From the Perhentians you will be on your way to Kuala Perlis for another full day. This was also the most intense travel day in Malaysia. The trip took much longer than expected and the bus driver was a real maniac. We traveled to Penang ourselves and made a short stopover in Georgetown: a very nice and colorful place!

Langkawi (4 Days)
From Penang it is a short flight to Langkawi. Langkawi is not a huge island, but it is great to explore everything by scooter. Langkawi has a very relaxed atmosphere and beautiful beaches. We found the night markets with freshly prepared food especially worthwhile here! This is all you can do at Langkawi!

Flight Home (1 day)
All good things come to an end. From Langkawi take the plane back to Kuala Lumpur and head back home. Or extend your stay with a visit to Singapore, for instance!
