Greece

Greece consists of the mainland and countless islands. The country has a rich history and is different from other countries in Europe in many ways, even writing is different! What we like most about Greece are the friendly inhabitants and the delicious food. View all our travel information about Greece here.

The Best Travel Route for Greece

Whereas there are larger travel itineraries possible on the mainland of Greece, the islands are compact enough to visit everything from one central place. We visited Crete and did different nice daytrips from one accommodation!

Visa and Entry Requirements

Greece is part of the EU, so the regulations for entering the country are similar to other EU countries. There are few to no border controls between countries, once you are in the Union, but regulations may change quickly. We advise to always check the latest travel advice for your specific situation! Furthermore, be advised that neighbouring countries are not (yet) part of the EU.

Travel Budget and Currency

Similar to many other Southern European countries, Greece is just slighly cheaper than the Northern part of the EU. However, it is not a budget destination either. Currency is similar to other EU countries: the Euro.

Climate and Weather in Greece

Greece has a mediterranean climate and summers can get quite hot, especially on the mainland. In spring and autumn temperatures are more moderate and better suitable for an active vacation.

Peak and Low Season

Most tourists visit Greece in the summer months July and August during the main holidays season in Europe. However, low season is becoming more and more busy as well, since vacation time is becoming more flexible in current working conditions.

Popular Travel Attractions

Greece has a lot to offer, both in ways of culture and for the outdoor traveller.

Health and Safety Information

We should consider both health and safety quite similar to other European countries. Especially the larger cities you should be extra careful to avoid small crimes (for instance always lock your car and don’t leave expensive stuff), but we think there is not much to worry about in the country.

Culture and Traditions in Greece

We especially loved the relaxed atmosphere and the delicious food in Greece. What is also striking are the many houses, where on the highest floor rough concrete and reinforcement still protrude, as if the house is not yet completely finished. Because mortgages are often only offered to a certain amount, people in this country simply build until they run out of money, to continue months or even years later.

Internet and Connectivity

We mostly had good signal in Greece, where sometimes it would get a little weaker in remote areas mainly in moutaneous areas.

Looking for a data package? We mostly use the Esim plan from Airalo for connectivity in foreign countries. Use the code MEIKE4854 for a €3,- discount on your first purchase!
