Singapore

Singapore is located in the middle of Asia, a super modern state that looks completely different from the rest of Asia! You will find futuristic buildings and the traffic is calm and clear. The only similarity with the rest of Asia is the climate: tropically warm all year round. We visited the city during our world trip as a stopover between Nepal and Indonesia. However, the city-state can also be easily combined with a trip through Malaysia. Planning a visit? We collected all travel information for your trip to SIngapore!

Visa and Entry Requirements
For Singapore we only needed our passport as residents from the Netherlands (a visa was not required for a stay shorter than 90 days). However, always check whether this also applies to your situation, as rules can change quickly and are different depending on your home country.
Travel Budget and Currency
Traveling through Singapore can be quite expensive, especially if you were used to other Asian countries! We tried to limit our expenses by sleeping in a hostel and having dinner at the Lau Pa Sat market, however it was still quite an expensive trip. The currency in the country is the Singapore Dollar (SGD).

Peak and Low Season
Many travelers combine Singapore with a trip to a neighbouring country, such as Malaysia, Thailand or Indonesia, so there will be tourists always in Singapore. Many will probably stay a few days, just like us. There will be busier and less busy months, however Singapore is a classic flight hub with many flight routes passing this airport all year round.
Popular Attractions
Singapore is a modern city, especially compared to other Asian countries in the vicinity. Many popular attractions are located in the city, such as the Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay.
Health and Safety
We think Singapore is super safe, both during the day and in the evening. Because of the modern environment, you could almost forget that you are so close to the equator, but Singapore is also located in a tropical area. Therefore, check in advance which advice applies to you regarding health and protection from tropical diseases, so that you are well prepared for your trip. It is always advisable to seek advice from a specialist!
Culture and Traditions in Singapore
We think Singapore is quite diverse! Besides the diversity of cultures, we were really surprised about the diversity of people walking around in the city. Besides tourism, we saw many employees with fancy suites wandering around in the city, especially in the evening.
Internet and connectivity
We used a local sim during our travel period and it worked perfect in every part of the city, as you may expect. Looking for a data package? We mostly use the Esim plan from Airalo for connectivity in foreign countries. Use the code MEIKE4854 for a €3,- discount on your first purchase!
