1. Málaga is Best Explored on Foot

The historic center and harbor area are compact and easily walkable, meaning you won’t need public transport to visit the main attractions. Málaga is a very accessible city where everything is within walking distance. However, if you’re planning a day trip, like visiting the botanical garden, you’ll need to take the bus. Fortunately, the system is straightforward, and you can buy a ticket directly on the bus.

2. A Few Days in Málaga is Enough

We spent four days in Málaga, but you could easily explore the city in fewer days. If you’re short on time, you can visit the main attractions in just one to two days—though you’ll need to keep a steady pace and hope for minimal wait times. If you have extra time, consider a relaxing beach day, followed by an evening discovering the best local spots for drinks. After all, you’re on vacation!

3. Carry Some Cash

Although most places accept card payments, we occasionally needed cash. Most buses allow card payments, but the bus to the airport did not. Additionally, some market stalls and the Mercado de Atarazanas only accepted cash. It’s always handy to have a few euros with you just in case.

4. Dine at Muelle Uno

Málaga offers plenty of restaurants, but prices can vary, especially for authentic Spanish tapas. A great spot for affordable dining is along the harbor at Muelle Uno, where you’ll find a variety of restaurants with budget-friendly menus. If you prefer dining in the historic center, check out Plaza de las Flores. For a unique experience, enjoy a flamenco show with your dinner at Vino Mio.

5. Stay in Málaga’s City Center

For a great stay in the heart of Málaga, we highly recommend Freshlanding Grund Suites Gallery. This stylish studio is within walking distance of the historic center and offers a modern, well-equipped space with a private kitchen and bathroom. If you opt for a slightly more expensive apartment, you’ll get a street view. Otherwise, you’ll overlook a small courtyard, which at least guarantees a quiet stay in the city center.

With these tips for your city trip to Málaga, you’ll be well-prepared for an unforgettable visit to this beautiful Spanish coastal city!
