5x Local Irish Food that you Must Try During Your Travels
Besides beautiful landscapes, Ireland is known for a number of typical dishes. Of course there is Guinness and Irish whiskey, but in terms of food there are also some typical dishes that are available everywhere. And did you know, for example, that you can also order a meal in almost any pub? Super cozy! But be sure to arrive in time, because the doors often close early. Here is some local Irish food that you should definitely try during a roadtrip through Ireland!

1. Local Irish Food: Irish Stew
One of Ireland’s most famous dishes is the Irish stew. It consists of lamb, potatoes and various vegetables such as leek, onion and carrot. All put together in a thick gravy. The dish can be found in almost every pub. A relatively simple dish, but very tasty! And the portions are decent.
2. Scones
These pastries look like small cakes, but consist of a slightly heavier dough. Usually it contains a certain flavour, such as cinnamon, apple or chocolate. The pastry is often eaten with coffee and is served with jam and butter.

3. Local Irish Drink: Guinness
In addition to typical food, Ireland is perhaps even more known for the drinks that originate in this country. And the number one is of course the Guinness. You literally cannot avoid it. This drink is like over represented in every pub, restaurant or terrace. And in addition to the drink itself, you will also come across Guinness signs everywhere with funny expressions about the drink. You should definitely try a pint of Guinness!
4. Irish Whiskey
Looking for something stronger? Whiskey is also an indispensable drink for the country of Ireland. You can taste the drink everywhere and in many different types. There are even several distilleries in the country, where you can do tours and tastings! We, for example, visited the Teeling distillery, where we did a tour through the factory including a small tasting.
5. Irish Coffee
A cappuccino or Americano on the terrace, that is very normal. But of course there is also Irish coffee. In other words: coffee with alcohol. The drink consists of strong, black coffee, some of brown sugar and a dash of whiskey, topped with a layer of stiffly whipped cream. Here, it is important that the whipped cream is floating on the coffee, so you can drink the coffee through the whipped cream. It is a heavy drink with these ingredients, so take your time to enjoy it in small sips.
